Life can get hard at times; in fact, it can get impossible. While there is always a solution to every problem or situation, our judgement of situations may be crowded by current feelings of despair and we feel like giving up on our self. The truth is giving up on yourself is different from giving up on that project or business idea that has been keeping you awake at night.

 In most cases someone does not give up on themselves because of one bad decision, it stems from a series of thing going wrong, resulting in feeling lost and losing all hope. One may feel like they have travelled too far down the road of failure and do not see a way forward.

Here are some of the reasons someone may feel like giving up

  • loss of a job or a business and struggles to make ends meet
  • loss of important friendships or a relationship
  • chronic illness among others

Stay hydrated. It might sound insignificant, but drinking water has a lot of benefit in your health and mind. Water not only refreshes you; it nourishes your body and organs. Staying hydrated gives you a better mood.  

Exercise

When was the last time you had a walk? Excise not only builds your physical strength but also improves your mental state. It also helps you to stay mentally alert and improve your sleep.  Not just walking to the shop to run your errand but just walking to relax your mind and body. Take 30 minutes to the nearest park and you will be amazed how better you feel.

Read a Book

Whether a chapter a day or a complete book, reading improves your memory, communication skills, and empathy. Reading engages your mind and shifts your focus from your current situation. Books also provide a different perspective to life which may change your focus.

Study shows that reading a book reduces stress, improves your blood flow and provides the ultimate relaxation. In fact, UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has implemented a book prescription program called Reading Well. This service prescribes books by medical experts for certain conditions. Take a Bath

A long soak in a bath is a good part of skin routine. However, studies shows that a bath reduces stress and anxiety. For instance, a study, conducted by the University of Freiburg concluded the above after assessing 45 people diagnosed depression. “Floating in the bath is believed to replicate the natural feeling of being in the womb, which causes someone to feel safe and comforted. Soaking reduces the stress hormones, improves blood flow and causes the body to relax. Have a soak and come back with feedback.

Find a New Talent or Learn a New Skill

Identifying your strengths is a good way to help you stay afloat. You can only develop new skills by answering the question on what you are good at. Becoming successful in any area of your life requires you to build skills that you can lavage. Identifying new skills and talents and using them every day can help you stay fulfilled and motivated, making life easier for you.

When looking into developing new talents here are a few tips

  • Move out of your comfort zone
  • Do not rush yourself because learning something takes time
